Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra
Contemporary Youth Orchestra and Blame Sally
Contemporary Youth Orchestra's "Rock the Orchestra" series continues, and in May 2012 they joined with Blame Sally of San Francisco. I arranged 11 of the songs for the show, including the extended every-section-gets-to-rock-a-solo version of "Hurricane".
Contemporary Youth Orchestra and Jefferson Starship
HDnet recently broadcast a one-hour special from the June 2011 concert presented by the Contemporary Youth Orchestra and rock legends Jefferson Starship. One of the highlights of the evening for many viewers and performers was "Sketches of China," which I arranged. Check it out on YouTube.
Jon Anderson's “Open” Now Available
I am proud to say that my first collaboration with Jon Anderson has been released. Jon's work on this is wonderful, and with fantastic contributions from many amazing musicians, I have high hopes for this 21-minute song. Speaking as a fan, I can't count the number of times I broke into a silly grin while listening to it.
For “Open” I contributed music composition, arrangement, and orchestration, orchestra and percussion programming, as well as bass, some guitars, and a little vocal work.
Check out Jon's press release for more information.

“Makes Magic Happen”
Stefan Podell is a talented and committed guy who makes magic happen. His incredibly musical orchestral arrangements of our songs for the Contemporary Youth Orchestra performance literally moved us to tears. We hope this is just the beginning of a long, collaborative friendship.
“A Unique Talent”
My good friend Stefan Podell is a unique talent, not only an amazing guitarist jumping effortlessly from jazz to rock to classical, but a very talented orchestrator. He has the knowledge of the modern musician and is able to conjure up his own unique soundscapes. He also has a natural ear for pure clear symphonic energy. I'm so thankful to have him in my life.
“He Is A Bad Ass”
Stefan Podell is a genius. Period. I am in love with his compositions and arrangements. Any time that the Contemporary Youth Orchestra is in need of either a specific tune arranged or a piece of music to be created, Stefan delivers. His arrangements and original compositions are of the highest quality; brilliantly scored with no detail left untouched.
His music has made me cry after one read.
He is a bad ass in this industry – and frankly, that is what is needed.

“Brought Tears To My Eyes”
Stefan is an arranger with an amazing ear for orchestrating a rock song and keeping the flavor and attitude intact. His orchestration of one of my tunes brought tears to my eyes - it seemed as though he had listened to what was happening in my head when I was writing the song. During rehearsals Stefan completely re-orchestrated another arranger's piece (which didn't work at all) so that it was PERFECT - all within a couple of hours - amazing!!

“Impressed By His Professionalism”
I have had the pleasure of working with Stefan for the last few years, and have been consistently impressed by his professionalism and ability to exceed my expectations. Stefan's talent and skills as a composer are clear in his own work as well as in his arrangements. He is able to work efficiently with no oversight and always finishes ahead of schedule. I will continue to work with Stefan because he >makes my job easier.
